Pachamama, or Mother Earth
Is the supreme goddess honored by the indigenous peoples of the Andes including Peru, Argentina and Bolivia. She is referred to as both the physical earth planet, also as the universal female energy in time and space.
Her name literally translates as Pacha – meaning world, earth, universe; And mom, that means mother. She is the Mother of the World. She is still honored in ceremoniesthroughout the Andes, to thank her for what the earth provides.
Every day we thank Mother Earth for our corn and for the work of the spirits of nature. Pachamama is our paradise, our glory, and our final resting place.
In Cusco we on August 1, we make an offering to Pachamama, because on this day the mother earth, Pachamama is hungry, and we offer food, sweets, chicha, corn and coca leaves.
