The high season for tourism will begin soon in the city of Cuzco. Little by little you see the arrival of groups of people from all over the world. They all come with the same goal, to know what Peru and the city of Cuzco offer.
Not all the visitors to the city come from the higher economic segments such that they can go to the more expensive restaurants and places in the city. In the city of Cuzco there are many places with safe and good food, the same in other sites such as near Saqsaywaman. You can go and visit that amazing place and at the same time find something delicious to eat while begin surround not only by the marvels of the past but also the wonders of nature.
Only those with economic ability can arrive in Cuzco and visit all of our amazing places, such as Aguas Calientes, Lares, and also Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Everyone arrives with the same objective, getting to know this great site that belongs to all of us Peruvians.
Nevertheless, there are also people from other social classes who also come to Peru despite difficult barriers. When they arrive they may start working to afford to survive. They will perform at intersections or sell their handicrafts. The neighborhood where most of these vendors install themselves is San Blas, the historical neighborhood of artisans. Many tourists from all over the world gather there and converse. Each makes their sales ignored to afford a delicious lunch in the nearby market of San Blas.
The other day, while I was walking to the Plaza de Armas, Cuzco’s main square, I ran into Fernando, a guy from Argentina who had come to the city to sell his crafts. I asked him how it was going and he said that here everyone is screwed: first because he does not know how to speak English and second because people do not pay much attention to his handicrafts. He said that night he was going to have to sleep in the street. At that moment he pulled out a bottle of vodka and offered me a drink. He said that when someone is not in their own country it is always difficult and when you do not have money it is tragic.
Most people who live in Cuzco think that all tourists have a lot of money. They think they can pay whatever quantity of money you ask for. But that is not the way it is. Not everyone who comes here can afford to pay for expensive things.
