Offerings to the Earth by Sacsayhuaman

Midday today, the first of August, in Sacsayhuaman the Earth Mother received a large crowd of people who, with devotion, brought their best and most beautiful gifts to give to her in homage.

This tradition continues, year after year, without fail. The people of the Andes maintain with fervor their customs. Our Mother Earth is happy. Today was a day to celebrate. Yellow mistura shines in the hands and in the air, reflecting connection. The chicha and the wine calm the earth’s thirst while with coca leaves people make k’intus (bundles) and add flower to them. The smoke of the offerings purifies us.

The Pachamama, or Earth Mother, is open today. It is the appropriate moment to make the offerings (pagos) in thanksgiving, and in petition. We are pleased to present in what follows a set of photos from today’s event.
