March against Gender Violence in Cusco, Ni Una Menos

The march, Ni Una Menos, was a success yesterday in Cusco. With banners, signs, drums and shouts raised high women protested violence against women in which every day they are abused, raped, and even murdered, while the state turns often a blind eye.

People gathered in the Mariscal Gamarra park at 3:30 pm and from their marched to the Plaza de Armas, the city’s main square. Many Institutions, such as girl’s schools, were also present along with individuals. They all brought signs, balloons, and whistles in support of the march.

Many men also joined the march, fathers, brothers, and children. They were there from the beginning to the end. But the focus of the day and the power of the event was women standing up and saying “no more”.

Many women have suffered brutal blows from their husbands and even from their brothers. They came together and marched this day and raised their voices for all the women who have suffered violence.

As the march went on, more and more groups of women and organizations joined and supported the cause.

Here is a video of yesterday’s important march.
