Good Food and Junk Food in Cuzco

There are options for healthy food in Cuzco thanks to the very nutritious products of our fields.  But with the passage of years we have also seen much less healthy food appear. For example, there are many fast food restaurants, chicken joints, pizza restaurants, and other.  People are getting ever more accustomed to this kind of food and set aside the natural food that has always been our heritage.

Instead of eating all the richness of foods provided by our Mother Earth, the people of Cuzco prefer to eat something quick, such as a pizza, a hamburger, or a pollo a la braza (rotisserie chicken with French fries).  They tend to leave behind delicious dishes such as the capchi de habas, a broad bean and cheese dish, which is delicious and very healthy.

Besides the healthy traditional food of Cuzco, we have also seen many vegetarian restaurants open.  There you can enjoy tasty dishes prepared with our raw ingredients that are so nourishing.  Still, it seems the majority of the clientele for these restaurants and stands are foreigners, often tourists.  They are the ones who take advantage of our wonderful foods to nourish themselves.  Few people in Cuzco have yet to develop the custom of eating vegetarian food.

Some years ago, the people of Cuzco enjoyed food that was pure, fresh, and healthy.  This was because the people of the city often tended to have gardens or farms nearby where they could get fresh food.

They would grow their own food. And raise their own animals, such as guinea pigs, pigs, cows, chickens, and others.  They would also feed them food that was natural.

Because of the food they ate, our ancestors were stronger in body and mind than we are today.  They did not suffer from the illnesses that afflict us increasingly today, such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and so on.  They would reach an old age with strength, vigor and active minds.
