Giving All, Secondary Schools Battle on the Plaza Today

Cuzco’s institutions play important roles in this fiesta, Cuzco’s jubilee month. Today, secondary schools will parade around the Plaza to honor Cuzco and show their greeting by performing typical dances as they parade. The students are those who give their strength and desires to represent their institution before all. They have been rehearsing with dedication for a month now.

They give their all. To win the award for the best dance of all the institutions is a great honor in turn for the students and the school. They prevail, and the students will carry this memory with pride forever. They will become the ones future students will remember and look up to.

In this way, the institutions prepare strenuously to attain this goal. From early in the morning they have rehearsed. The lack of sun and intense cold cannot keep them from their efforts. Nor can tiredness. Only three words exist for them: “¡Sì se puede!” (Yes we can!).

They hunger and thirst for victory as if this were a war among schools to win in Cuzco.

With all their dances ready to begin the parade–they have their banners, their costumes, their musicians and all the students barely able to contain themselves, the signal comes. The dancers start off, giving their all, showing the choreographies, with their turns and drama. Sweat pours from them as they dance with ever bit of vigor possible.

They seem from different world, figures from out of Cuzco’s folk heritage, as spectators scream and shout in delight. At the end they receive applause like pats of the backs of every one of the dancers. You did well.

Though they can begin their cool down, still they feel anxious. Only one school can carry off victory. The others disappointed will say that next year they can prevail. With more work, more desire, and more emotion that next year they can carry home the award.

As a result, each year is a wonder. It cannot easily be compared with past years, since it is better than ever. As a result the people of Cuzco will feel happy with their youths, who not long ago wore diapers and went around the Plaza in their parents arms, now show the greatness of Cuzco to society and give an example to upcoming generations who are just now beginning.
