Cusco’s 2015 Huancaro Fair
This year, after a break, the objective of the Huancaro Fair was reclaimed, to give a public space to Cusco’s agricultural and livestock producers. It takes place between the 20th and 20th of June in the Huancaro Fairgrounds. Producers from the thirteen provinces of Cusco and from other regions of the country are present.
It was fascinating and a great learning experience to visit this state fair held in Huancaro where all the diverse climates and areas of Cusco and other regions come together in a single space.
Showing the Cacao Pods
The owners, workers, and vendors in the stands promote their products with a smile and courtesy. They invite you to try a little of their products and offer you information. They exhibit their products and show the public the best of their provinces and regions.
Primary school children come with their classes to the fair in order to get to know the great variety and diversity of foods that we have in our region.
This years fair had a much larger presence of stands offering coffee, cocoa, and chocolate from Cusco’s tropical region: Quillabamba, Yanatile, Echarate, etc. They give you a taste of their coffee or chocolate so that you can enjoy your experience in the fair and appreciate the different qualities of each stands product.
Beside coffee and cacao, many other products were on display. These included fruit, kiwicha, quinoa, native potatoes, and varieties of corn. The stands showing all the different types of potatoes or kinds of corn were veritable rainbows of colors and forms. There also were stands demonstrating the growth and development of a range of vegetables. Here the public can acquire foods directly from the producers at economical prices.
Many people go there with the intention of buying specific things, but the temptation of all that is found in the fair make people want to take some of everything.
You will also find on the other side of the fair examples of our fine, purebred sheep, cattle, and other animals.
This year the fair expanded the amount of prepared food offered making a gastronomic fair with an ample number of tables filled with guests. There also are juices, games, and artistic presentations.
This is a wonderful activity for your family and friends to go and enjoy the best of what Cusco has to offer.
