Celebrate the Day of Students

Today Peru celebrates the International Day of Students. Normally the even is held on the 23rd of September, but because of the weekend schools throughout the country are holding programs to celebrate students. The date was designed to fall right after the beginning of Spring in the Souther Hemisphere.

This year it falls right on the equinox, a sacred day of the Incas when the sun would cross the door of the sanctuary of Qori Cancha, the Temple of the Sun in Cuzco, and the main pathway. The movement of the Sun was something closely observed and celebrated by these people devoted to the God Inti.

In today’s conjoining of a solar event marking the changing of seasons with the growth of young people into adults, Cuzco Eats wishes to join the celebration of students with a series of photos.
