Atahualping Challenge: The Challenge of Throwing a Bible to the Ground
Every day many videos are uploaded to YouTube. Some of them are becoming viral depending on the content that is produced as well as trends and fashions like the famous video-challenges that many people are imitating.
Lately, videos of people throwing their bibles have appeared and have become viral quickly in social networks. This challenge is called “Atahualping Challenge” and consists of smelling the bible, putting it in the ear to try to hear, and then throwing it to the ground, all this as a rejection of the church.

As it is written in chronicles and books that the friar Valverde who accompanied Francisco Pizarro in the invasion of Peru offered the Holy Bible to Atahualpa who was then imprisoned by the Spaniards. Since he did not know that it was that book and did not know how to read it, he just put it up to his ear and then just threw it on the ground since it was mute.
The creators of this Atahualpa challenge take this part of the story to make their rejection of the Church strong. Many people seeing this challenge are disagreeing and consider it an insult to their religion and Church.
Atahualpa at that time did not know that it was the bible and could neither read nor write. As a result, that act does not have exactly the meaning that the creators of the Atahualping challenge believe.
Just as the culture of the Incas and the church is valued and recognized today, a conflict is being generated. It is confusing the different cultures that have passed into history because by today everything has changed. We are a society of a mixture of different cultures and different ways of thinking.
In particular this challenge is hurting the feelings of many people who have nothing to do with the thinking of the others. They simply live what they believe and thus have happy lives.
Let’s exclude this kind of action and if they need to do a fight against the church do it without messing with things that others think are important to them.
