World Aids Day

Every year on the first of December is celebrated World Aids Day. This is an illness that still does not have a cure and only very expensive treatments.

On this day, many organizations go out to teach people about what causes the illness, the forms of transmission, and how one can avoid getting HIV. The information about this theme is abundant and can be found on social media, news, books, and especially online.

Just this year, the virus has infected a large number of youth since, when one is first infected they have no symptoms and without they or their partner(s) realizing can spread the virus.

How does one get HIV?

• Transmission via blood
• Sexual Transmission
• Vertical transmission (from mother to child)

In the majority of Cuzco’s plazas, its health centers and other organizations you will see information whether under tents or from posters. It is easily visible to everyone to help answer any questions people might have on this theme. Today, blood tests will be available to detect people’s HIV status.

With posters and messages, activists will also carry out marches to let all know about HIV. Just as in other cities in Peru, Cusco will celebrate this international day for the fight against HIV Aids.

We all should take advantage of this day to know our HIV status and, if we are positive to begin the treatments without any delay in the nearest health center.
