Water, Yunzas, and Live Music Made Yesterday Ring

Yesterday, Sunday, Carnival came to an end in fun and joy. Various yunzas were carried out in the city’s neighborhoods. The end of Carnival is a grand celebration, usually with concerts and live music. Those who are responsible for organizing a yunza contract with groups specialized in cumbia, chicha, or huayno who come to the stage after the tree has fallen, at night, and play the music people ask for.

The great feast of remate, as we call it, the last clap of Carnival, is spectacular. On that day everyone who could not play and enjoy the feast earlier come out. Yesterday was a beautiful day in which the main figures were balloons, sprays of foam, water guns, and buckets of water. People began to play from when the first rays of the sun illuminated our beautiful city of Cuzco.

In my neighborhood a yunzada was carried out yesterday. They residents of near by neighborhoods came out to see everything that was happening. Some people watched from up on the ruins. They had buckets of water ready and many filled water balloons at hand. Every little while they would throw some at the dancer in the yunzada. Girls got together and formed some water brigades of just women to soak any males that crossed their path.

As the day turned into a wet night, everyone pulled back from the event in order to go and change clothes to enjoy the feast with the live music. The group that played in our neighborhood is Grupo 15. For several years now it has been around performing good music.

A great celebration opened up and beers and frutilladas flowed. The beer vendors were dancing even while selling their wares. Joy was the name of the evening. Everyone enjoyed fully had a great time with Carnival. They sent it away with much energy and pleasure.
