The Celebration Virgin Asunta Begins With Great Joy in The City of Cusco
With great excitement this morning in the heart of Cusco the central day of the Virgin Assumption’s fiesta began. With beautiful dance, much color and music, our mamacha (our beloved mother) went accompanied by her retinue from the great cathedral to start her journey through different important points of the city
Every year every August 15th, this great festival is celebrated in different areas of the Cusco region in honor of the Asunta mamacha. This includes the Sacred Valley of the Incas where the population celebrates with great fervor and faith this beautiful fiesta.
Today, with many devotees, the Virgin is making her procession, earning the admiration of local visitors and tourists.
This festival lasts around a week from August 14 to 19, where faith and devotion are paramount. Alongwith it a series of religious and social festivals and activities, as well as events like cockfights and bullfights will be held.
