Yesterday, Cuzco’s plaza and all surrounding streets were filled with soldiers, firemen and rescue squads, as the region celebrated its annual military parade. Throughout Peru, the armed forces and similar bodies march in the major celebration of the national anniversary of Peru. The regions perform before the twenty-eighth of July and the national forces make their showing on the day itself.
Although the parade itself shows off goose-stepping troops, following the Prussian military ideal, it also contains within it fascinating and colorful images of feeling, food, and power.
In what follows, Cuzco Eats presents a photo essay of yesterday’s parade around Cuzco’s Plaza de Armas.
