Cacao, The Second Most Important Crop

As is well known, cacao is one of the products that has a long history in its production.. Occasionally is makes the news. The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Gustavo Mostajo, mentioned that cacao production in Peru reached 120,000 tons in 2017.

Mostajo further said that cacao is one of the most important crops in the country.
The high production of cacao allowed more than 90 thousand farming families in the Amazon of Peru were able to rise from poverty thanks to the high production in 2017.

Mostajo also indicated that in the course of this year the export of cacao beans has already reached 52 million dollars, highlighting Peru as one of the main producers and suppliers of fine cacao and the second producer of organic cacao worldwide.

Peru is also the eighth world producer of cacao beans. In the world production of cacao beans, it represents 1.7%. In addition, cacao is considered the second alternative product to illicit crops after coffee, which shows the importance of this product.

Cacao is changing lives and filling with joy all the people of Peru and demonstrating the great value that this product has.
