K-Pop Claims Space among Cusco’s Youth

K-Pop is an abbreviation, yet it is hitting Cusco full on. This genre of music is more fully known as Korean popular music and includes diverse styles of music such as electronica, hip hop, rap, rock, pop, etc. It also includes dance steps that are well synchronized with singing.

The most well known groups that have large quantities of fans around the world are: Super Junior, Exo, Teen Top, Girls’ Generation,  SHINee, Sistar, TVXQ/DBSK, MBLAQ, BTS,  Big Bang, and many more groups.

The costumes that the different groups use establish style an many fans would like to obtain copies of that clothing to wear. Each day this musical genre has more followers, among which a large percentage are female.

By means of posters, leaflets, photos, and more, they support from a distance their favorite stars among the different K-Pop groups. In the city of Cuzco there are many fans, both male and female, who follow this musical current closely. They listen to the music all the time and learn to perform the different choreography of their favorite groups.

In our city are organized different K-Pop events where fans get together and enjoy the style and moment as they come together to represent their favorite groups. They form clubs of fans and perform covers. They also hold contests to test each other’s abilities in dance, song, and more.

The groups of fans gather in parks and gyms of the city to converse about K-Pop and practice their favorite group’s choreographies. They become a kind of family These young people who study in our high schools, institutes, and universities use these small spaces in time to enjoy and leave behind their ordinary life through the means of their devotion to K-Pop.
