Maikhana Indian Buffet Pleases Your Palate in Cusco

A couple of days ago, with the Cuzco Eats family, I decided to eat Indian food. David, Walter, Brayan, and Luís had already tried Indian gastronomy and recommended various dishes that were found in the buffet at Maikhana, a South Indian restaurant in the center of Cusco.  It offered a variety of tasty Indian food.

We arrived at the door of the Merced Galería, located on the corner of the Sun Avenue with Mantas Street. We climbed the stairs to the second floor where the buffet restaurant was located right in the heart of Cusco. I had never come up here before but I enjoyed my experience.

Inside, the restaurant was decorated with images from India. The walls were painted magenta under a white ceiling and lined-up images of the family of the restaurant’s owners as well as of places in India.  In the corners you will see pots with ornamental plants.  The ten round tables in the room have a view of the Sun Avenue and there is a sound system reproducing Indian musical videos.  All together creates a majestic environment in which you can note light hints of incense in each corner.

The table in which dinners fill their plates is located at one extreme of the restaurant.  Seeing all the dishes displayed is a work of art.  There you can elect among vegetarian dishes and dishes with meat.  There are not a lot of them, but they are delicious and enticing.  You see maybe 10 or 12 along with salads and sauces and can eat all you want for only 15 /S.

We claimed a table for five and each of us went with empty plates to serve ourselves from the dishes kept warm on the table. There was a parade of colors.  The contained sauces with pieces of chicken lamb, and vegetables.  There were stir fried noodles as well as a white and a yellow rice. They had an exquisite appearance and were tempting. I wanted to try a little bit of each.

I chose six different dishes.. Each had a particular flavor and I loved the balance of flavors. The yellow rice was lightly spicy and combined beautifully with the other sauces. The stir fried noodles next to the chicken in its sauce taste soft and flavorful. The salad bar was fresh and tasted delicious on my palate.

I am not an expert on Indian cooking, but for my taste the food was very agreeable. I could taste the flavorings in the plate and they were well equilibrated and the dishes delicious. On finishing each of us what we had eaten, we agreed the food was good.

Maikhana is the Indian restaurant of Cusco.  It seduces you with the variety of its food, as well as its authentic dishes filled with flavors, fine herbs, and flavor. The service offered by those who attended there was friendly and very efficient.

To eat, and see on their screen Indian musical videos took me for an hour or so to a distant culture filled with flavors, scents, and colors.
