Rainbow Mountain, winning photo, National Geographic Traveler 2019
The year 2019 ended with the National Geographic Traveler 2019 contest where the most incredible shots were chosen from among 15 thousand proposals representing 154 countries. Approximately 6,000 photographers shared the best of countries like Bangladesh, Spain, New Zealand and China.
In the 31st version of the annual photo contest, National Geographic Traveler magazine chose the winners based on their creativity, history, and photographic quality, which they determined with the help of a panel of expert photographers from around the world. Cities, nature, animals and people are the prize categories with $ 2,500 in the first place, 1,500 in the second place and 750 in the third place.
One of the honorable mentions was taken by Puerto Rican Brian Larrosa who was visiting the Mountain of Colors in Cusco, Peru. He managed to capture two alpacas with scarves in the middle of the mist that barely let the colors of the mountain be seen.
Brian Larrosa:
“Instead of taking the Rainbow Mountain bus tour, I camped the night before, about an hour and a half away, to be the first to leave at dawn. That morning was full of fog and when I arrived, I could barely see the mountain of seven colors. I waited an hour for the fog to clear, but it didn’t. Along the way, I passed this lovely pair of alpacas with the colors of the Aymara culture, which made the wait worthwhile ”
The colorful mountain tour is one of the most recent tours and has had a great acceptance by visitors throughout the year 2019. Although the weather in the city of Cusco is variable around the year, do not hesitate to take this adventure, as it is worth it.
