Rock art is a clear representation of the experience of the ancient people who lived in Cusco. In the city of Cusco there are several places where you can see rock art. One of these places is the Ccorca district of the Province of Cusco.
One hour from the city of Cusco is the district of Ccorca, its economy is based primarily on agriculture and livestock. Currently the road from Cusco that connects to Ccorca is being improved to allow better access.
To get to Ccorca you must take public transport from the Paradero de Puquin in the Santiago district, after 45 minutes you have the option to get off and walk around 20 minutes on the Original Inca trail or continue on the bus until you reach the Ccorca district.
If we take the first route, walk along the path of the Qhapaq Ñan that connects the coast with the mountains. In Inca times the chasquis, messengers, traveled great distances throughout the Tahuantinsuyo and the roads like the one we mentioned before were of vital priority.
One of the mountains that takes care of this place is the Apu called “Mama Simona”. The gender assigned to it is feminine and in the month of August, Andean offerings and marriages are made in this place. The road we take passes over the slopes of this mountain.
Flocks of sheep and goats, also cows and bulls, can be seen along the way. Families are fully dedicated to agricultural activities. You can also appreciate a lot of flora such as Kantu, Chachacomo, Queuña, ichu, etc. And at the same time species that are not native are found, such as Eucalyptus, Cypress and Pine.
Finally you reach the main square of this place where you can find shops and food stalls. After a 15 minute walk you will find the rock art and on the road that of course is original Inca highway you can see tombs belonging to the men who would have painted the cave paintings or ancient settlers who would have lived in this place.
The municipality of Ccorca carried out restoration and maintenance of the place, so it is suitable for all visitors who want to know this beautiful place. The cave paintings are from the Paleolithic where the first men were already engaged in agriculture and the grazing of camelids.
