Every once and a while a marvelous full moon arises over the Imperial City of the Incas. The moon comes out round and whole, illuminating all the city at night and even the landscape of mountains and valleys all around. It is amazing and evocative to see the moon in its full splendor.
Whenever the moon makes its presence known in this way, people in the city dream of spending the night camping. Especially the people who live in the neighborhoods up on the mountain slopes love to do this. Their young people, when they see a full moon, make plans to go camping immediately. They quickly get everything they need and depart for one of the many destinations in the mountains. While they walk in the dark the moon illuminates their path.
All they need is a tent and everything else is easy. They tend to buy some food and water. Then they go looking for a specific place they have in mind. When they get there, such as the Balcony of the Devil (el Balcón del Diablo), they set up their camp.
One group of person goes looking for branches to be fuel while the rest set up the tent and camp site.
When there is a full moon many people have the custom of performing ceremonies in the most visited places in the mountains. These are the Balcony of the Devil, the Temple of the Moon, the Miskahuara River, and others. To carry out these ceremonies they need the help of a papacho, an Andean Priest. He is who knows what is needed and the steps to perform a good and correct Andean ceremony.
