This 11th and 12th of August, the best meteor shower, or shower of stars as we call it the Perseids, will be visible from all over the world at dawn on both days. It is the unique spectacle of the year.
This morning was wonderful. A group of friends and I had gone campin
g on top of the hills around Cusco. We were near the Temple of the Moon, just an hour or so from the city. We looked for the darkest and highest spot we could find and we looked in complete darkness. Luckily, we found the perfect spot, close to some huacas, Inca sites. There, we camped and got comfortable. Even though the cold was intense that did not weaken our hopes.
Suddenly, an intense light shining in colors appeared in the sky and cross from one side to the other. It was the first time we had seen anything like this. It was like a shooting star but larger, brighter, and colorful. Wow. We all were amazed. It was a great shower of meteors. After a few minutes more lights appeared. It was really a fascinating and unique night.
Tonight, many people will also go to the highest mountains to see one more time the great celestial spectacle of the year. You should not miss it. Make plans with your friends or family and experience this great adventure.
You should go to where there is no light contamination. Get as far away from the city as you can, especially far from its lights, and you can enjoy this great show.
