International Women’s Day: Commemorating The Fundamental Role That Makes The Progress of The Nations

March 8, a global event, “International Women’s Day” is celebrated. It is a date commemorating struggles for women’s participation in society. The most important objective is the search for gender equality in society and its development.

This important date was recognized by the UN on March 8, 1975, but before that, there were movements, talks, marches, as well as other agreements, such as the Charter of the United Nations, signed in 1945. This is the first international agreement to affirm the principle of equality between women and men. Since then, the UN has been helping to create a historical legacy of strategies, norms, programs and objectives with the aim of improving the conditions of women throughout the world, allowing women to participate in conditions of equality for men.

This celebration around the world brings together women’s organizations, corporations, charities, as well as governments, who, through rallies, conferences, talks and marches, celebrate this day with the goal of achieving full equality gender for women around the world. This is because in some countries there is still discrimination and violence against women.

Throughout history, women have played a very important role in social, political and economic life. Their active participation is a key factor in the progress of nations. For this reason we must redouble our efforts to protect the rights and dignity of women. We already have many achievements, but nevertheless we still face great obstacles which we will only be able to overcome by pressing on in favor of a radical change.

In our society there are many women who play the role of mothers, dedicating themselves fully to their family, and this does not mean that they do not do a job. On the contrary, at home they fulfill a multidisciplinary task, they are mothers, wives, administrators, dominate the issue of finance, economics and education. They work as a team and are tolerant and, despite having a very hard job, they are not recognized or valued in many societies. They do not even receive a remuneration, but they are in charge of success of a company called home.

Despite this we must not forget that the first role of women in society is “being a woman”, they are their identity and their femininity without the need to adopt masculine characteristics to be accepted in a world where inequality of opportunities still exists.
