Cusco’s Montaña de Colores Given in Concession to a Canadian Mining Company

Sad news, Vinicunca, also known as the rainbow mountain, was granted for mining purposes by the Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Institute (INGEMET) to the Minquest Perú mining company, owned by the Canadian company Camino Minerals.

The mountain of colors has become an important tourist attraction in recent years and has attracted much interest from foreign and domestic visitors.

The concession, according to the civil association Cooperacción, coincides with the proposed zone for the creation of the Ausangate regional conservation area. This is an initiative of the regional government of Cusco and one would have expected it to preempt the mining concession.

There is no one to stop the hand of those who are selling our beautiful Peru. We have to put a stop to this concession. How long will we allow these pseudo politicians to do what they want. Let’s stop supporting foreign companies and other countries and value our riches ..! Peruvian, let’s all fight together
