Christmas commemorates the birth of the Christ Child in Bethlehem on the 25 of December centuries ago. Some people call it the nativity of the Lord and others of the Christ Child. Nevertheless, for most people Christmas has other meanings and motives that make them anxiously await this day.

Children are those who can`t wait for this day to come. They want their gifts of toys and such that their parents buy for them. Others await the day to be able to eat some pantetón, sweet bread, along with hot chocolate. Poor children and rural children come from all over to receive packages of sweets and gifts, as well as hot chocolate, from charitable persons and businesses. For a long time, this giving of hot chocolate and gifts to poor children has been a custom in Cuzco.

Adults look forward to spending Christmas Eve, especially but also the day, with their family. Many people who live far away from their loved ones travel to come home on this day just to be together with family. That is why all transport prices climb. As a result, for some it is very difficult to make it.

Christmas is a symbol of friendship and love, in which conflicts and struggles in the family are reconciled, at least for the day. The love of Mary and Joseph is an example that many follow and which on this day they show in their family.

In any case, Christmas is a busy time. Even to the last minute, as midnight approaches on Christmas Eve, people were out buying the last minute gift or the necessary salt or oranges. They also went out just to see what other people were doing on Christmas.

On the 24th after midnight people are ready to receive Christmas, as we say, with a lit tree. They share hugs and desires for happiness with all the members of their family and their friends. Then, they give each other gifts and enjoy all the preparations and everything else this day has in store for them.

Christmas is a time of joy and happiness. It is filled with many values, such as humility, and spending it together with your family and friends, remembering the good of family love and peace.
