With great joy and tenderness yesterday, the kindergartens and centers of inicial education from throughout the city carried out an allegorical pasacalle, a parade with colorful dances. As one could expect, the small children stole the spectators hearts with every movement of their dances. They drew from us one smile after another. Some people laughed loudly at their antics and others just applauded.
The pasacalle began at 9 am in front of a completely filled Plaza de Armas. The small ones began their dances from the Calle Plateros towards the Plaza de Armas where three panels of judges awaited. The first was on the Portal de Panes where many spectators also awaited with energy and anxiety. The also had balloons and confetti. The second, and main panel, was in front of the cathedral’s doors. The judges awaited along with the great fans of each school who would let out screams and chants, as well as applause. They would shake the stands set up for spectators. The third and last judging station was in front of the Compañía de Jesús church.
Among the well-known dances, the children presented ones such as carnaval cusqueño, cholo qorilazo, majeño, contra danza, and others from throughout the region of Cusco. This living culture continues to be passed from generation to generation. Furthermore, it helps us to maintain our customs and traditions when we forge them in our small children. It is an important part of us as Cusqueños.
The Andean children made the grand passage around the Plaza de Armas with great impetus and and ability, making their first folkloric presentation in the Fiestas of Cusco.
As a beginning, it was excellent. In this way the children pave the way for the other institutions which will surprise with their great presentations durante this festive month. Do not miss the program of events that we posted yesterday for the next two weeks.
