Nudes Strike Cuzco and Machu Picchu

Something about the body, shorn of clothes, in famous places encapsulates the ideal of tourism. You get to know places all over the world and know them deeply and intimately. Of course, to do so is also breaking the rules, a kind of rebel yell that instead of a Billy Idol seems like it should come with the white t-shirt of a youthful James Dean.

Machu Pichu’s officials have been horrified at the spate of streakers shedding clothes and enjoying the famous site that pokes high into the sky. They find it offensive to public decency, according to a recent article in The Guardian.

Of course, it is not just Machu Picchu that is receiving the backsides and bare chests of travellers. Selfies suggesting nude travel can be found on line, a kind of one-upmanship on the whole selfie trend, as well as a claim to innocence and authenticity.
