Campaign to “Give Life to Our Heritage”

For the last two weeks, a campaign to raise awareness and care for our material heritage is being carried out. Called “Give Life to Your Heritage,” the program is organized and promoted by the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Cusco.

Participation is voluntary and involves students from different high schools and universities. All participants are given refreshments, beanies, and polo shirts. Likewise, technical advice is provided for an adequate treatment of our stone work in order to avoid deterioration.

The campaign to give life to the heritage consists of removing grease and dirt from the Inca walls. For the cleaning, the volunteers use water, deionized water, brushes, and gloves.

The goal is to clean all the stone walls of Loreto Street, the Plaza de Armas, the portals and continue on to individual items of stone, according to the person in charge of the cleaning campaign, Julio César Sierra. Likewise, the project hopes to encourage preventive conservation and increase awareness of our heritage.

Today the students of the Landazuri school started the day by cleaning the walls of the portal, with great enthusiasm. Young ladies were doping this work in benefit of our community.
