Breathing in the Clear Blue of Cuzco’s Mountains
An experience you cannot miss if you find yourself in Cusco is contemplating dawn from the mountains that surround our Imperial City. To be in the idle of so much nature, far away from the noise and pollution, and to just let yourself be carried by the fresh air, the aroma of humid earth that is just awakening. To feel the first rays of the sun, the light breeze that caresses your face. All of this is something unique that you can only experience in magical places filled with energy, flora, and natural scents of trees, flowers, and rivers.
From Cusco’s Temple of the Moon you can see a panorama that includes a portion of the city and the different tutelary Apus, our holy mountains, dressed in green. If one wants to capture and retain that experience in images, this is the place to do so. Lovers of landscape photography will be happy.
The Qhapaq Ñan is the trail that take us up from the city to the Temple of the Moon. It takes off from the Plaza of San Blas in the direction of the mountains above. The Temple of the Moon is about 15 or 20 minutes uphill. All the way up you will eb surrounded by temples and huacas that are all along the trail. On the other hand you will have an amazing view of the city as you climb up. It is incredible, especially if you are in the midst of a sunrise or sunset.
Throughout every day small groups of tourists visit this place. For the time being the admission to this natural park is without cost. So if you wish to take a trek out from the city, there is nothing better than to climb up the mountains in order to enjoy the natural wonders the Pachamama, the Earth Mother, offers us.
