After more than eight months after the approval of the “LAW THAT REGULATES THE PLASTIC OF A SINGLE USE AND DISPOSABLE CONTAINERS” by the Peruvian state, we see today a notable change in the city of Cusco.
Previously throughout the city the use of plastic bags was excessive. There was no awareness on the part of people, both sellers and buyers, to sell or buy products of different types such as vegetables, fruits, meats, bread, etc. without plastic bags. The high use of plastic bags was considered insignificant because of their low cost.
But with the decree of the law approved in December 2018 everything began to change, although not everyone agreed. Prior notice of fines to companies that use plastic bags, the change left no other option.
The signs and notices on the reduction of plastic were remarkable and every day people took steps in order to buy products. We are returning to the past where purchases were made like bread in bags made of reusable cloth.
In addition, containers and utensils that can be washed are being used for daily purchases of human consumption. Moreover, biodegradable bags made with organic fibers that are easily decomposed on contact with water and earth are now being used.
Finally, people are understanding the damage we do to the planet by consuming plastic materials. Let’s continue with the change to give a break to our entire planet and everything beautiful in it. So that the coming generations can see how beautiful this place is.
